A Saudi soldier, who became wheelchair bound after being shot in the head, is now able to walk following his treatment at an alternative medicine centre in India.
Ayub Sheikh (name changed) who is admitted to the Vaidya Health Care Centre in Kochi, had been put under Ayurvedic therapies, very effective in cases of nerve-related damage. The lead doctor at the centre, Dr. Kiran B, says the improvement has come in the 45 days of Ayub’s stay at the centre.
A bullet had penetrated Ayub’s skull in a case of an accidental firing by a colleague while in the Saudi. He was then 28 years old. Ayub was taken for an emergency procedure immediately after, which helped save his life. However, he came out of surgery left limbs badly affected. Later, he went to the US for his treatment. When that did not yield results, he turned towards Kerala and to the Vaidya Centre.
“Ayurveda has time-tested remedies, especially for those suffering from nerve disorders and diseases. It entails some oil messages in parts, and the use of some rare-herb medicines, besides some lifestyle modifications,” says Dr Kiran. “In 21 days, we were able to effect the changes in him.”
Ayub, himself, is pleased with the results. At one point, his hopes to be able to walk had started to diminish, he says. However, his treatment at the Vaidya Centre paid off.
Usually the recommended period of stay at the Centre is 21 days, but seeing his improvement, Ayub has decided to continue staying on.
Dr. Kiran says Ayub will continue to improve by days and months, as long as he keeps close to the medical advice given to him. He may have to alter his lifestyle, be consistent with the medicines for a long time. “He will come good in the end.”
